Disappointing and way overrated

If you are looking for real insight into men and how they feel about women, don't waste your time on this book. Buy one of the many very good books written on the subject by men instead. The author is really full of herself. She spends a great deal of time patting herself on the back and congratulating the reader on being lucky enough to have chosen her book over the others. There is nothing special about this book, it is a rehash of what is written in many other books on relationships.
And she emphasizes some points that are really just plain wrong.
Never make love with the lights out is repeated over and over. Making love with the lights out or in dim lights works very, very well for many women. Men find it exciting. And how many times have men made negative remarks about how seeing a woman naked in the light of day made them realize they weren't really that attracted to her after all. Why does she think bars and romantic spots are always dimly lit? Because real women and real men have physical flaws and frankly, people would prefer not to emphasize them. I sure don't want to spotlight my boyfriend's love handles because I know he feels bad about them. I know they're there and I don't avoid that part of him, but I respect him by not throwing the brights on them. I know that he feels that someday he will lose a little weight and they will disappear. And even if that never happens, I respect his feelings. An average looking woman or man can be more confident and fun in a dimly lit room because all the little imperfections are mostly hidden.
She also insinuates that men don't care if you are overweight as long as you dress well. In a perfect world, yeah, that would be really nice, but we all know that most men can be less than kind about a woman's physical appearance and care a great deal about her weight. It's hurtful, but unfortunately, it's the way it is. If you put the shoe on the other foot, you will admit most women don't really want an overweight mate either.
I think a lot of what she writes is just an attempt to make women feel good so she can make money off them, but being less than honest is not going to really help anyone find love. Most of the rest of what she's written is repeated over and over in other books. This self-proclaimed "relationship expert" does not offer much help when it comes to really understanding men. There are some much better books out there such as "101 Things Your Dad Never Told You About Men" by Bruce Byans. It's a concise little book that mirrors what men have frequently told me about themselves after we became close. It's a book that makes you like men, which is a definite plus when you are looking for a good man to share your life with. "What Men Really Want" did not make me feel good about men and much of Ms. Summers advice is just plain wrong.

Not always applicable

I'm a widow over 60, and been dating online for 10 years. In this economy, especially in Michigan, it's hard to find support and encouragement for guys who had to retire early, and with less financial security than they envisioned. They are still like the young men when it comes to sexual desire, as you mentioned, however, they don't have the confidence that their body will comply with their fantasies. They're still visual, but often in denial about their lack of grooming and waistline too. If he can't turn you on before he gets you into bed, it's pretty hard to build up his respect for himself too. Older women who actually do enjoy sex need a man who's capable of turning her on with affection and foreplay first, and then being capable of fulfilling his fantasies, without losing hope that he's able to. I was married for 28 years, and I could definitely have used the advice back then, I'm sure, but your advice is meant for the young who are starting out, or starting over much earlier in life. A man has to earn the respect in some way too.

Includes links to other product sites where they pitch you their product - she tries to come across as altruistic and then the "book" feels like she is a con artist. Not cool!
