"Gray avoids the lewd and lascivious without being sanctimonious. Sketching characters who choose faith-based alternatives when dealing with today's frustrating difficulties and featuring plotlines that treat sensitive situations without judgment, Christian romance in her hands becomes vivid and stirring." -- Randy Bigham, Ennis Daily News

Very Very Good (From a Guy's Perspective)!
By Mike
I saw some people talking about this book on Facebook and wondered if it'd be good for my 14-year-old daughter. I got it to read before giving it to her. This book was great and exceptionally enjoyable. I'm not a reader, but I ended up staying up late every night during the week because it captured my interest. It made me look forward to bed time so I could read more. I think I read the last 150 pages all on a Friday night staying up way past normal bed time for me. My wife wondered what had gotten into me. I'll probably wait a couple years before giving it to my daughter to read, but I'm considering giving it to my 16-year-old son instead. I've seen many reviews here discussing the book's value to girls, but there's value here for boys as well. The two main male characters paint very different pictures on how to approach dating. Next time my son is in a dating relationship, I'd like to be able to ask him, "Are you treating her like Jake, or Parker?"

Self-Discovery
By ArmyWifey417
Reading about Avery's battle with body image and self-esteem was very insightful. I think that T.L. Gray did an excellent job depicting the challenges that women face with body image - which would be great to include in the description of the book.
The character of Jake actually reminded me of an old "boyfriend" from my younger days. In fact, our "break-up" was similar to Jake and Avery's. Jake is emotionally unavailable, runs from his feelings, messes with Avery's head throughout the book and ruins her innocence. He was my least favorite character and frustrated me the most while reading. Why couldn't he just leave her alone?!
About half way through the book, Avery has an emotional meltdown and ends up meeting Parker; whom serves in the military and also attends Winsor. Coincidently, Parker's character was my favorite and reminds me of my husband. He is sweet, supportive, intuitive, and a Christian.
Honestly, this book was so good that when I did sit down to read it... I couldn't put it down. Near the end of the book, I just needed to know what happens and read the last 6 chapters in 1 night.
It's odd because when you find a book that tells such a captivating story, it becomes like a friend or like watching a show. I almost kind of miss Avery's character since reading about the most intimate parts of her life makes me feel "close" to her. T.L. Gray does a great job portraying a young woman on a mission to find herself.

Riveting fiction, inspiring and educational in real life
By Hammock Librarian
Unfortunately, this story is all too often truth instead of fiction, happening in the daily lives of girls who struggle to strike a balance between love and obsession, between healthy choices and dangerous fixations. I recognize so many people in the pages of the book, so many real faces that are caught up in the destructive cycle Avery faces.
In this way, the book becomes not only a great read that draws you in and makes you want to yell at the characters to make certain decisions, but it also becomes a beacon of hope to those desperately lost in a long dark tunnel that twists and turns and winds back around to where it started.
The descriptions of Avery's thoughts and reasoning as she battles her eating disorder and obsessive relationship give us a raw look at the labyrinth she's running through. Every choice is a crossroads, and rooting for her to take the right path is unavoidable. She's the girl-next-door who needs someone to believe in her, someone to throw her a lifeline and introduce her to the One Person who can clear up her confusion by grabbing her hand and walking her out of the dark maze. But will she open up to that possibility or continue down the self-destructive path that seems so much easier to take?
Anyone who works with girls or young women should read this book, not only to gain sensitivity to that girl everyone knows who just won't stop making bad choices, but also to be reminded of the difference simply reaching out and showing unconditional love can make in someone's life.
I found this book enthralling, and I loved the author's style. Her passion for sharing truth with women shows through in her writing and in the video below. I look forward to reading the second book in this series, which seems to spin off of one of the minor characters. Keep 'em coming, Mrs. Gray! You've gained a fan!
PARENTAL RATING: I give this a strong PG-13, but I need to emphasize that the G does stand for guidance--you moms and aunts will want to read this one first. It's brutally honest about the reality of eating disorders and obsession, with some spicy details about how far sexual attraction can go. The author didn't cross any lines in terms of the details, but use your judgment about whether or not it's too much for your teen.
