Rarity's Lost Episode
By Zeck
So, the joke among the fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is that Rarity is missing in season 3. That is to say that every other one of the Mane Six got their own episode, but not Rarity. She did have a speaking role in nearly every episode, but she was never the focus of a season 3 episode. Apparently, the comics are trying to make up for that. In the main series of comics, Rarity is currently playing a major role in the story. And is, in fact, the main focus of the story in a certain sense. But My Little Pony Mirco Series #3 is the TRUE Rarity episode. Any fan of Rarity needs to pick this up.
The story is titled "How Rarity Got Her Groove Back," although you'd be forgiven if you couldn't make that out. The style of the text for the title is done in super hippie style (bubbly, flowing letters and shapes with lines drawn in them. The 'w' is especially hard to make out). In this story, Rarity is preparing for a major fashion show in Canterlot, and in doing so, has worked herself to the bone. At the advice of her friends, she takes a week off and goes to relax at a "Wellness Center." However, the wellness center turns out to be a bit too in touch with nature, and Rarity finds herself even more stressed. But there's more to the wellness center than is first suggested, and when Rarity learns the truth, her Element of Harmony, Generosity, shines. In Rarity's own pampered, elegant, graceful style.
This comic could have easily been an episode of the actual series. While I liked the other two Mirco series so far, they didn't feel like the T.V. show. Twilight's was missing the Mane Six, and while it was fun seeing her be a bookworm nerd, she didn't seem to play too well off of the other star of her story. And Rainbow Dash's felt rushed to me. The essence of time flow was completely off, and I was forced to wonder why no other ponies were trying to help save Ponyville. Or why no one was worried that she couldn't fly for two months.
That is not the case in Rarity's story. The Mane six are present at the beginning, with all their little quirks, but it's Rarity's personality, and how the writers and artists handle it, that truly makes this feel like an episode of the show. Rarity's diction is spot on, speaking in a more refined manner than other ponies, but you can hear her voice change in your head when she says things such as, "It's...um...charming?" or "Oh! This is quite the...buffet." Always trying to be polite, but you can easily tell that she's not enjoying herself. I especially love the fact that they added musical notes to the word "Idea!" when Rarity is struck by inspiration. I could hear her voice from "The Art of the Dress" coming off of the page because they nail her character so well.
This wouldn't be a comic review without a few words about the art. I am pleased to say it is spot on. Rarity is constantly drawn with her lovely curled mane and her elegance, but there are other versions of her as well, ranging from annoyed, disgusted, to sheer bliss, and downright angry (advice: don't make Rarity angry). A personal favorite of mine is when she is woken up by a rooster. The mess of her mane and the look of utter shock in her eyes is perfect. But perhaps my favorite drawn pony is Wheat Grass, the female pony in charge of the resort. Her look is classic hippie, but it still works amazingly well. Long eyelashes, pale green irises, straight blonde hair, and a charming personality to boot.
Finally, what really sells this comic, are the jokes and shout-outs to fans of the series. Here are just a few of them:
The debate over Vinyl Scratch's eye color is finally over. They're red. And yes, Octavia and Lyra are there too.
Fans will note that Trixie has redeemed herself fully, as she entertains residents with her magic tricks now instead of mocking them.
Wait! How can Trixie be there?! Does this mean...? Yep. This story takes place during season three, probably toward the end. How can you tell? Pinkie Pie yells as Rarity is leaving, "Don't forget to write!" but she is glaring at Rainbow Dash while she says it. Rainbow replies, "I meant to," a reference to The Wonderbolt Academy episode.
Speaking of Rainbow Dash, she is once again launched through Rarity's roof.
Luna knows the "Hush Now, Quite Now" lullaby.
Rarity does NOT know what a hammer is, which I can totally believe because of how they show it.
Derpy is the mail pony after all, but since she's delivering to the backwoods, that's probably why she wasn't around for season 3.
Rarity is no longer "The Pony Every Pony Should Know," and she does her classic eye twitch when she finds out.
And finally, perhaps the best joke in the entire story--and proof once and for all to end the debate--Rarity is the best pony. I kid you not. It actually says that. YES! (Okay, calm down everypony, no need to start riots over a little joke)
The only thing I did not like was the bonus comic at the end. And by 'not like' I mean 'Low blow, Spike. Low blow.' I don't want to spoil anything, but let's just say that if Rarity ever finds out what Spike did, he's probably going to be in a bit of trouble.
So, I highly recommend this comic to any MLP fans out there. It truly does feel like an episode from the show. If you only pick up one of the three Micros out there at the moment, get this one. If you are a fan of Rarity (now officially the best pony), then I cannot stress enough that you need this. Seriously, go buy it right now.

So... cute....
By ChibiNeko
I absolutely love this micro-series so far. It's incredibly cute, but what many parents will love is that it's more child friendly than the main comic series. I love that the main series is so dark in tone, but it's also fun to see a little light-hearted playfulness in the micro-series.
I actually think that this issue is a little better story-wise than the previous two issues. I loved both Rainbow Dash and Twilight's stories, but Rarity's is a bit better summed up altogether. Plus it's just fun to see Rarity's expressions when she gets dirty.
The artwork here is incredibly cute and I absolutely love seeing the aforementioned expressions whenever Rarity is forced to take part in various activities around the "spa". I've re-read this multiple times since I got it the other day and I really can't wait for the big volume edition to come out so I can get all of the various covers and any inevitable bonuses.
On a side note, the next issue looks like it's taking place during Fluttershy's childhood, so get ready for a cutie heart attack.

Pony ponies
By JoTaku
Witty, sharp, and funny writing, and an art style I've loved since the first issue, I'd recommend it. the micro series has had an inconsistent quality this far inn my eyes, I liked the writing in 1 but not so much when it came to the art, 2 had the opposite problem, fluttershy's was decent enough (the comics portray her as a little...weird sometimes) pinkies is nice enough to, but this one stands head and withers(pony shoulders) above the rest.
