Bluebell has spent the last twelve years of her life at Training Tech, the government-run boarding school all children are required to attend. Now that she's seventeen she is fully prepared for Incorporation; a time when females and males are allowed to mingle again, for the first time since they were toddlers. It is also the day she must endure Citizen Branding - the mandatory searing of a mark into the flesh of the left wrist of all new Citizens. O for fertile, X for infertile. The fate of every Citizen, male or female, is determined by the results.
Bluebell knows that a Citizen’s duty is to live for the glory of Concord, just as she was taught. But the frantic dreams and hazy memories that haunt her make her different, and the questions she cannot deny threaten to turn her world upside down.
Disclaimer: LUSH is not just a Series - it's more like a Serialized Television Show. As the beginning novel, it sets you up in the LUSH world and asks a lot of questions; many that are not immediately answered. Think of it like LOST or The Vampire Diaries or Heroes... and not so much like E.R. or Fringe or House. The follow-up novel is due October 2013... where the story continues.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS BOOK!!
By Caterina's Review
This is a new series (or a serial) that is distinctly different from S.L. Baum's "Charity" books. Set in a dystopian world, children are taken from their parents at five years of age and sent to a school called Training Tech, where they "teach" the kids about the Concord way of life with boys in one school and girls in the other. The kids essentially grow up there, only see their parents (no opposite sex siblings) on Visitation Days and and get inducted into the world as proper Concord citizens at Incorporation Day when they are 17 and get branded as Citizens. They have to go through six months of Incorporation before they can finally move back home. Then, they are expected to live the life they were told to live, work at the job they were told to have, attempt to have the necessary children according to their fertile status or no children if they were deemed as infertile.
They are expected to follow the ways of the Concord world without asking any questions and live their life the way they've been told. They are expected to "Concur with Concord".
However, Bluebell, a fresh graduate of Incorporation has been given a startling new opportunity. A proven model student, she has not been branded as fertile or infertile. She has been branded with a completely different symbol that has not been seen by the citizens of Concord for years. She is Lush and now people want her to be the new Concord ambassador. Her mother is thrilled and Bluebell goes along with whatever she is told to do. Except when a strange and mysterious package arrives that she is told to keep secret. Will she do what she has always been told to do or will she take a chance on an object that could put her entire family in danger? Does this have any connection to the realistic dreams that she's been consistently having since her days at Training Tech? Who can she trust?
This book really drew me in and I could not stop reading it. The characters were fleshed out and the descriptions of the Concord world made me feel like I was a part of the story. I thought the writing was superb. I've read everything she has published and I think this is Baum's best writing so far. I did not find it short but it did have an ending that made you want to read the next installment right away. October cannot come soon enough!

Great new series!

I really liked this new series! It was not complicated but drew you in to the world of Bluebell and her friends. I was intrigued by the cliffhanger and can't wait to see what happens next is Hush.
I disagree with some other reviews about the length - I don't think it is particularly short, in fact it seemed an average YA length.

Nothing here that was anything different from

I really, really hate when a book does not contain a single completed story line -- this is what this book felt like. It's mainly an elaborate set-up for later books in the series. The idea is pretty standard - 'perfect protagonist in perfectly regimented society finds out that the society is really pretty sinister.' And that about sums up the plot by the end of the book. While there were some appealing characters, I don't really care enough to want to keep reading more books in the series. The 'dystopian society/coming of age' idea has been done much better by many others.
