Da vinci code with a supernatural twist?

I liked this one. It reminded me of Supernatural, the tv-show (which I love) and also of Da Vinci code, mostly because of the Catholic Church being involved
Story itself was captivating and really kept me interested throughout the book. There were some elements I wasnt' so interested with, mostly with the main character but can't really go into it without spoiling.

Well written and entertaining

Even though I'm not the biggest fan of supernatural thrillers, I very much enjoyed this one. I'm not completely sure it was supposed to be set in our universe or not but that didn't change affect the story. There are demons and devils called forth and the public doesn't seem to really notice it. Whether that's because it's more commonplace here or just a nicely worked cover up isn't made clear, but again that doesn't really interfere with the story.
I won't completely cover the story other than to say that Mark loses his partner while trying to take down a demon that shouldn't even exist and travels the world trying to find out what happened and who did it.
There is a well written back story and some surprises here and there, without making it tedious in any way as some other authors do. And as another reviewer said, it would lead nicely into a series and I'd be happy to keep reading more of these stories. Well worth the money in my opinion.

A new take on monster hunting.

If you can't wait for the next MHI (Monster Hunter International) novel, this will definitely tide you over. In The Hammer Commission, we follow one of the Vatican's top Devil dispatchers, and unlike most stories of this genre, it's not a gun that is the tool of the trade. When Technology and Faith interact, it doesn't always come out the way one would expect.
Someone is targeting the elite Devil hunters of the Hammer Commission, bringing power to bear that hasn't been seen in more than half a century, and Mark has to depend on every last bit of skill, every contact, and every bit of luck he can scrape together (even if it's bad luck) to avoid joining his partner in heaven prematurely.
If you've read Van Stry's other works, there are certain elements you can expect to find here too, and they fit in surprisingly well.
Could this be the start of a great series? Get in on the ground floor.
